Welcome back to Mixtape Monday!
I hope everyone had a great weekend! Awesome news- there was a recent article in the Wall Street Journal scientifically proving the correlation between listening to good music and having a good workout.
Now, I realize that exactly none of you are currently peeling your jaws off the floor after being gobsmacked by that bombshell of information that just exploded on you, and I know that at least a few of you are currently thinking:
We already knew that.
However, the article is a really interesting read and I highly suggest taking a peek. Turns out that syncing your pace to an upbeat tempo throughout your workout can build endurance faster than listening to boring music/no music at all.
My favorite part touched upon the psychological aspect- pumping up the jams while you’re debating with yourself over whether or not you’re in the mood to exercise can be the biggest motivating factor of all. Similar to a stimulant, the right beat will give you that boost of energy you need to get your butt to the gym.
And for all you numbers people out there, the article brought in math and ratios and heart rates and oxygen intake measurements and beats per minute along with varying degrees of this and that… I forget the official algorithm but it was something along the lines of:
Exercise + Music = Heck Yeah
So, now that it is a scientifically proven fact that without a good mixtape, your workout is infinitely more likely to be a drag (if it happens at all), let’s get to the tunes shall we:
