So, as I mentioned in Monday’s post, I did a lot of errands this weekend. One of the things I bought at CVS was a new face cream called L’Oreal BB Cream Youth Code. (Well, it’s new to me, at least) I bought it because I needed a new face cream and also because I am a marketing team’s dream.

It comes in a shiny bottle. I’ve been hearing all this stuff about “bb cream” for forever and even though I have NO idea what is, I knew I wanted it. And the coup d’etat- it says “YOUTH CODE”. That happens to be my favorite code!

So I bought it and I’m wearing it and I’m happy to report it makes my face feel smoother than a baby’s bottom, which is exactly how I like my face to feel. The only down side is that I usually buy fragrance free products, and this product has a slight fragrance. It’s honestly not that bad, I’m just not used to it yet. I mean, I probably would have wiped the stuff off my face by now if it wasn’t for the baby bottom effect mentioned above, but eh I’ll get used to it. The things we do for beauty.

ladies am i right

And what I also touched upon in Mondays post, but didn’t dwell on, is the fact I ran my errands AFTER going to Bar Method. In other words, I ran errands without showering first, without changing shirts, I just went. And now we’re going to dwell on it.

Because here’s the thing- I do that allll the time. To the dismay of everyone in whatever stores I’m going to, I shop in the very same workout clothes that I worked out in just moments before.

And you know what, I’m not even ashamed of it. It’s my favorite time to do errands.

The above gif is how I look and feel on my way to do errands after a workout, minus the car and minus the blonde hair. Awesome dance moves? Check. Excitement over the mundane? Double check.

After I exercise I have energy, I’m thinking clearer, I’m already out and about… Does anyone else prefer to do errands after the workout portion of their day is complete?

bueller

Granted, Bar Method doesn’t usually turn me into a sweaty beast, so it’s not that noticeable when I run errands after class. However, I DO become a sweaty beast after a run, and no that still doesn’t stop me for the most part.

If I run at the gym and therefore have access to a locker room, I’ll change my shirt like a civilized person. But if I’m just running outside, I’ll just stop by my local Whole Foods as is. (Sorry Whole Foods staff and shoppers!)

ew

But I know I’m not alone in this. Sometimes I’ll spot another girl in workout clothes, with sweat soaked hair in a headband, cheeks still ruddy from the aerobic activity, and we’ll exchange a little nod. A little recognition that you, too, are in the club of super efficient people who run their errands in a super efficient manner.

(Britney is not only a member, she’s also our spokesperson.)

I can understand how it may look like the refusal to shower before being active in a public arena stems from laziness,  but it’s actually all about efficiency. I’m a morning worker-outer, so it makes so much more sense to go to Bar Method at 8am on the weekend and then head directly to the stores or the nail salon when they open at 9. THEN I come home, shower, and continue with the rest of my day.

What are your thoughts? Is this acceptable? Do you ever run errands directly after working out?

If not, does it bug you when you see sweaty people next to you in the super market?

Have you ever tried BB Cream??

54 Thoughts on “Errands, Amirite?

  1. I run sweaty errands all. The. Time. I especially do this if I’m out running and happen to pass by the CVS/grocery/wherever. I’m sure I horrify the rest of the patrons, but whatevs. It’s all about efficiency. They can deal. 😉

  2. I think its totally acceptable. I just reapply some deo and spray some body spray on and go! I have tried BB Cream – I have Garnier Fructis’s and love it!
Britt @ BrittsRunningStyle recently posted…Mariner Mother’s Day 5K Race RecapMy Profile

    • Ah- I’ve heard people prefer Garnier over L’Oreal! (In fact the link that I used to get that picture says they prefer garnier.) im going to have to give that one a whirl.

  3. Sounds like the most efficient way to get things done! Especially if you’re literally going to be passing by the stores.
I generally shower first or at least change my shirt, but that’s because I get really cold after a workout. However, I almost always blow dry the sweat into my hair instead of washing it!

  4. I am all about efficiency, so I always combine workouts with errands. If I have a lot of errands to run, I’ll throw some extra clothes in the car with me and change out of my super stinky running shorts & top before I hit the grocery store, Target, FedEx, etc. If it’s just a quick stop, I’ll just run right in, stinky shorts and all.
Nicole @ Work in Sweats Mama recently posted…Division of Labor – It’s Your Turn to CookMy Profile

    • Right! If I have the forethought to plan ahead, I’ll take an extra shirt with me so I’m not wearing the sweat-stained stinky one at the grocery store while other people are trying to shop for food, but, that happens less often than i’d like to admit.

  5. Totally acceptable. In fact, I always assumed it was standard practice. I figure that as long as I’m not in closed quarters with people, I won’t insult anyone too much… but I try and make sure to avoid elevators 😉

And I SWEAR by BB cream. I started using it last summer and it’s basically the only foundation type thing that I’ll put on my face. If you’re looking for one without a smell, try the one by Maybelline. That’s the one I use and I love it.
Amanda @ .running with spoons. recently posted…. i cheated on cereal .My Profile

    • Ahh Maybelline! Ok, I’m going to go back to CVS after work and pick some up. The smell of L’Oreal isn’t bad per se, but I’m just so accustomed to everything being completely unscented, the smell is distracting. Thank you!

And lol- yeah you’re so right- if it isn’t standard practice for everyone at this point, it SHOULD be:)

  6. I never run errands after I workout, but I do like to sit on my butt after I workout. Which means, no shower until I’m done sitting on my butt! Which can actually be quite a long while.

  7. Girl, what you do is totally acceptable. I do it all the single time. Joshua says it’s gross, but pshh as long as he’s not embarrassed to go out with me I think we’re still good to go :) I mean that is why they invented deodorant and all right?

  8. I think my roommate is sometimes embarrassed to go with me to the dining hall after I’ve just worked out and am a sweaty mess, but hey you gotta do what you gotta do right?
Alyssa @ Road to RD recently posted…WIAW #2- B.S.My Profile

    • Lol- AMEN. I used to go the dining hall a sweaty mess allll the time in college… and even now that I’m out of college I’ll still go to restaurants in workout gear… old habits die hard I guess :)

  9. AHAHAHA it was meant to be that we found each other. If you lived close to me, I’d run errands with you all day in stink form. I have no shame either. You, however, can bring the dance moves and I’ll bring that blonde hair you’re missing. Together, we are an icon, a smelly, stinky, sweaty icon. I love it. It’s totally acceptable! It doesn’t bother me seeing sweaty people because I know they’re doing something awesome – working out! :) Yay have a fabulous day my smelly friend! Stay strong. haha

    • hahahaha this comment made me laugh out loud! :) together we could totally be a smelly, stinky, sweaty icon!! such a shame you dont live closer! YOU have a fabulous day my stinky buddy!!

  10. No one ever sees me in my nice clothes because I too run around town knocking off my to-do-list in my after workout sweaty attire! By the time I’m showered and looking good its time for bed!
    carlotta recently posted…Monday’s Hero!My Profile

  11. I only run errands in sweaty stinky workout clothes. I’m pretty sure my local grocery store can smell me coming. I also workout in the morning and would much rather get all my errands done before I come home to shower and enjoy the day. No shame.
Runner Girl Eats recently posted…WTF?! WednesdayMy Profile

    • Hahaha yeah mine can smell me coming too :) Love it. And yeah, it just makes the most sense to get those little errands over with before returning home to shower and actually start the day. couldnt agree more! :)

  12. I have the Olay Fresh Effects BB cream and I love it! I actually love the whole line!!! :-)

    • Isnt BB cream amazing?! I was expecting it to take a couple weeks for me to notice a difference in my skin, but it was literally immediate. i can’t wait to see the affects after a few weeks :)

  13. I don’t necessarily run sweaty errands but I always look awful when I run to the grocery store. These are the times I am thankful that my blog is not big and I don’t run into anyone I know in public places 😉 I tried BB Cream once but it was really light on my skin tone – does this one come in multiple colors?
Becky @ Olives n Wine recently posted…Ugly Runner SyndromeMy Profile

    • Yes- I believe they do come in different colors! I have the “light” shade because I’m really pale, but I was actually wondering if I’d be able to use it throughout the summer when I get tan.

  14. Do you ever run errands directly after working out?

Um yea…when I used to take yoga/pilates or strength training class at night at the gym, I was NOTORIOUS for doing that. Late night grocery runs to Harris Teeter grocery store, directly after working out. Lol. The staff def. became accustomed to me running in with T-shirt & tights, or running shorts (depending on the weather). Sorry, Harris Teeter!

  15. Who’s got time for two trips a day?! Lol. Which is my way of saying OF COURSE I do this ALL the time (sorry neighborhood Target, HyVee, and/or CVS) and its frequently the only way the grocery shopping actually gets done! I really hope most people don’t mind, and I know I always send out vibes of solidarity when I see “that girl” out shopping :)

PS: if a baby’s bottom is the number one thing you like your face to feel like, what’s the number two thing?
    Chelsea recently posted…Well, I would rather…My Profile

    • Hahahaha EXCELLENT question. I just googled “smooth as a” to see how google would finish that sentence for me, and up popped “babys bottom” “silk” “cat” and “ken doll”… so the choice is obvious, I’m going with ken doll.

  16. Hilarious. I’ve definitely been known to hit the WF in questionable attire. But honestly, there’s nothing like having a workout over & done with before I start the day.

The BB cream pic got me! :) LOL!

I have tried it before! I have to agree with you when you said it felt like baby’s bottom! :)) Love this stuff! :)

  18. Korean people looove BB cream. I keep meaning to check it out. Do you feel like it evens out your face? I have redness and things, but I don’t know if it’ll be enough coverage.

I read a makeup blog who has tons of info on different brands: http://www.frmheadtotoe.com/search/label/bb%20cream

Also, I can do one worse than errands: I go to CLASS in my gym clothes. I hop off the elliptical machine and literally jog to night class, where I sit…in my gym clothes. It’s disgusting. I don’t get to change until our break, which is about 60-90 minutes in. Sorry, everyone!

    • hahaha love it- class in workout clothes is pretty awesome. it just makes good sense to me! you’ll love the bb cream, you have to give it a try. Its a great base and evens out my face better than anything else i’ve found. I also wear a bronzer over it to really get things even, but yeah the combination of the two is great, I’m loving it!

  19. It is totally acceptable to run errands in workout clothing, I do it all the time. Actually, recently my boyfriend and I went to the gym then needed to go to the mall for a few errands. I didn’t get any weird stares, but he said he felt like everyone was staring at him because he had on one of those sleeveless shirts where the arms are cut off so that you can see a persons torso a little on both sides (does that make sense?) Anyway, errands in sweaty clothes is totally acceptable!
Her Happy Balance recently posted…Strawberry Basil Chia PuddingMy Profile

    • Lol I’m sure your boyfriend looked totally fine! I’m realizing that boys might have a bigger problem with running errands in workout clothes than girls do, which I find really interesting. thanks for the sweaty errand running solidarity :)

  20. Omg I totally go grocery shopping after working out without changing ALL the time… I am so gross!

  21. I work out in the mornings and shower at night, so I go about my business every day without showering (unless I get really, really sweaty). I do change clothes though. I’ve never given it much thought I guess (I should pay more attention to my surroundings, huh?)

    • Ah I used to do the exact same thing!! I switched to being a morning showerer one day purely because it started fitting into my schedule better. But on the weekends all rules go out the window.

  22. I have never tired BB cream before but really want to and after this I am going to so try it!

Also, I teach Pure Barre, a barre fitness class similar to Bar Method and I always go out right after without showering, no shame in our game girl! : )
Morgan recently posted…May 14th is National Buttermilk Biscuit Day!My Profile

    • Oh my gosh you teach you teach pure barre?? Thats so cool! I’ve been meaning to try it. I have a membership to my bar method studio so I always just go there, but theres a pure barre not too far away from my apt. I have to get to it at some point soon!

  23. It is definitley acceptable and I’m sure most of us do it from time to time! I make sure to carry body cleansing wipes in my gym bag because I sweat far too much, but they save me if I don’t go straight home after a workout. I think it’s far more comfortable to run errands in workout clothes, sweaty or not, than running errands in your nice work clothes. Your lifting bags, walking quickly, you’d get your nice clothes all dirty anyway!
Meredith recently posted…The best part of my weekendMy Profile

    • Oh thats such a good point- I DO tend to get sweaty while doing errands from all the bag lifting and running around that usually comes with it. you’re so right workout clothes are actually way better attire than normal clothes! And l love that idea for putting cleansing wipes in your gym bag. I’m going to start doing that!

  24. Oh my gosh, that picture of Brittany! Seriously. I do the same thing as you and have no shame! A little sweat stain never killed anybody and if you’re wearing deodorant than it isn’t all that bad. Haha, I just saw that Kristin Wig bit on SNL with her working at Target. She was SO annoying, but her hair was hilarious!
And I’ve never tried BB cream but am very curious…
makingthymeforhealth recently posted…High Protein Veggie Quinoa SaladMy Profile

    • haha “a little sweat stain never killed anybody” soo true! I would def suggest giving bb cream a try. i dont normally find skin care products that i get excited about, but i really like this one.

  25. I picked up sushi wearing riding clothes not long ago, thanks to a stupid agreement I made with my girlfriend to bounce around on horses (on which I have since reneged). The older you get, the less you care that a young Asian man is looking at your breeches and riding boots like you just grew a third head.
Amy (KidFreeLiving) recently posted…Show the Nice Lady the Chiggers Hiding in Your ButtMy Profile

    • Lol, amen to that! and by “that” i mean both reneging on the horse riding and the no longer caring what people think :) I’ve never understood horse riding either.

First – I found your blog through The Bloggess – you are hilarous and if I lived in Boston I would totally want to be your friend.
Second- I recently tried the Juice Beauty CC cream and love it. Seriously the best ever. It looks really natural, but still has great coverage.
Third – I ALWAYS run errands after I work out. In the winter it is great because you can put on a sweatshirt to kind of hide the sweaty mess. Summertime… oh well, there is no hiding. The only real issue is that I do Krav Maga and 9 times out of 10 my hair will be a crazy mess – aaaand I still don’t fix it, even if I know I will be seeing the hot guy at Trader Joe’s. =)

    • Hahaha thanks Rachel!! I like you already because you are a fan of the bloggess, lets be friends :) and you just blew my mind with CC cream- i didnt even know about this stuff! now i must have it! and omg krav maga is so hardcore thats amazing!!

Blogs like yours and the Bloggess help me get through the monotony of the workday! As far as CC creams go – I had just heard about BB creams when someone was like “NO, go for the CC cream!” – It is like they are one-upping each other with the alphabet! Krav is super hardcore, but it is super fun and one of the easiest/best ways to learn self defense. I highly reccommend it!

        • Hahaha thats exactly what i was thinking when i saw CC, i was like “whoa that beats BB cream by a landslide. hands down, game over.” i cant wait for DD cream to come out with some awesome name like – “discoloration destroyer” or “deformity deleter” i look forward to that :)
