Happy Thursday all!! Thursday means one thing in this corner of the interwebs: it’s time for the Great 8 list.

So, this Sunday is my birthday. I’m turning thir- ahem, sorry there must be something in my throat. I’m turning thir- ahem! one more time, here we go, I’m turning thir- nope. Sorry. It’s the 1st anniversary of my 29th birthday. Rhymes with flirty, nerdy and wordy.

Ohh I’m being dramatic. It’s cool. I’m actually really psyched about entering this new decade, as long as I’m not expected to give up my propensity for immature jokes and bathroom humor, I’m ready to kick off the thirties with aplomb.

I was trying to figure out how to make a Great 8 list out of turning 30, and you guys, Buzzfeed has pretty much beat me to almost every one of them.

Top movies turning 30 this year? Done.
Top reasons turning 30 is awesome? Done.
Top list of random things also turning 30 this year? Done. (Although that one is mentalfloss.com)
Top reasons Taylor Swift’s epic twenties anthem, “22” is funnier when redone for the thirties? (Done on youtube in song form)

BUT top reasons I’m ready to be 30 based on my responses to the lyrics in “22”?? NOT DONE!

Until now…

(If you’re not familiar with Taylor Swift’s song “22” you can go here, but essentially it talks about the things you do and think about when you’re 22 years of age.)

Top 8 Reasons I’m Ready to Turn 30, Taylor Swift

8. Lyric about being 22: “It feels like a perfect night for breakfast at midnight”

  • My response: I beg to differ. No matter what night of the week it is I tend to be asleep by 10.

7. Lyric about being 22: “To fall in love with strangers uh uh uh uh”

  • Huh, perhaps you have never heard of a little thing called stranger danger?

6. Lyric about being 22: “It’s miserable and magical oh yeah”

  • I mean, sure, although wouldn’t it just be easier not to make everything so dramatic and extreme, can’t we just describe it as “okay”? But brava for the alliteration.

5. Lyric about being 22: “Tonight’s the night when we forget about the deadlines”

  • I know, don’t you love buckling down and getting all your work done early? Oh that’s not what you meant? Oh, well, in that case forgetting about deadlines is really irresponsible and we are going to be kicking ourselves later for that decision.

4. Lyric about being 22: “And end up dreaming, instead of sleeping”

  • You would never suggest that if you knew how much I loved sleeping.

3. Lyric about being 22: “You don’t know about me, but I bet you want to”

  • You’re wondering why I’m wearing yoga pants and sneakers at a bar. And the reason is- because they are comfortable.

2. Lyric about being 22: “This place is too crowded, too many cool kids”

  • Wait, where are we again? We must be in the wrong place. Are you sure we got the address right?

1. Lyric about being 22: “It feels like one of those nights we won’t be sleeping”

  • Oh no, why not? Did we drink caffeine too late in the afternoon? Take a Melatonin, if we fall asleep right now we can still get a couple hours in before the alarm goes off at 5:30.

To everybody currently in the vicinity of 22 years- enjoy it :)  I totally would have understood the meaning of those lyrics if that song had come out when I was that age, and so should you.

To everybody else who’s closer to 32 than 22 (or if you’re one of those old soul’ed young’uns)- amirite?

When is your birthday? What’s your sign? How old are you turning? Do you like your birthday or does it give you a little anxiety?

  1. Hahahha you crack me up. These are all great. I’m in bed before 10 every night. Oh, with the help of some melatonin. And IF I go to a bar… I’m probably in yoga pants. The best part- I’m 21. TSwift, you’re WRONG.

  2. Welcome to your down & dirty thirties! My twenties were great, but my thirties have been pretty awesome too! We went to Hawaii a few days after I turned 30, and while we were there, I found out I was pregnant with #2. Not a bad way to kick off the decade!

I’ll be 32 in August, and I feel light years away from the sentiments in this song. Laughing out loud about sleep. Wait til you have kids. Sleep will be one of your most precious commodities! There have been nights I’ve passed out (from kid-induced exhaustion, not partying) at 9:00. And I wouldn’t trade it for the world!

It must be SUPER hard to be 22, a millionaire many times over, traveling the world, and living your dream. Poor girl! How does Taylor manage?

    • aww what a great way to kick off the 30s!! and srsly– i fail to see what’s so miserable about t. swift’s early 20s. must be so gosh darn “miserable”…

  3. Ha ha ha- this is seriously brilliant! Happy early birthday! I think you’re entering a new decade with class.
I turn 30 in January. I don’t mind actually turning 30; what scares me is how fast time is flying by.

  5. OMG I think I’m crying, you are such a riot.

First, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABES! Second, may 30 be your best year.

January 16. Capricorn. 26. Ambivalent towards my birthday.

So, 22 wasn’t THAT long ago for me and I don’t really remember experiencing any of the things she is talking about. 19, maybe, is a closer approximation?

Anyway, happy early birthday! Do you have any fun plans?

  7. Great post of the joys (LOL) of reality….But you’re still not quite an adult yet! So don’t go getting any ideas about that yet! Tee Hee Hee!!!!!

  9. I look forward to your blog posts. I know they will make my morning! :)

June 12th. Gemini. 21 in 14 days. Taylor swift doesn’t have step-children…or any sense. This was about 17-18 for me (before full maturity hit?)

    • alright a fellow gemini!! happy early birthday to you! lol that girl really doesnt have any sense. and you’re right – the song makes more sense for a younger age group.

  10. Were you as fabulous at 22 as you are at 30? Oh girl, you crack me up. That was very much me at 22, but it feels like a different lifetime now. I turned 28 on January 4th (making me a Capricorn), and while I don’t usually freak out about birthdays, I can imagine that 30 might cause a little twinge of apprehension. On the other hand, I like to think I get better with age… so bring it on 😉

    • haha thanks love :) I agree- my 22 year old self seems like another lifetime ago! i’ve been apprehensive about birthdays since i was about 14 but amazingly this year i’m actually feeling pretty good about it over all. im ready to have a good decade:)

  11. Bahahaha. Happy almost anniversary of your 29th birthday! I think T-Swizzle forgot to mention one MAJOR thing about being 22…more than likely you just graduated college, don’t have a job, and are hating life. Oh, that was just me? Oookkk then. Please tell me you saw the Conan O’Briant rant on this song and how she’s totally looney?? You MUST google it!!! It will give you a good LOL for sure!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles recently posted…did that just happen? My Profile

    • Thanks girlie! And lol- no i havent seen the conan skit, omg i’m going to google it right now sounds right up my alley!! and I KNOW- as i recal 22 was spent very poor with horrible jobs, someone needs to write a song about that :)

  12. bahahaha love this!! I was anxious about 24 (my bday was May 12)- it just seems so much older than 23.
Caitlyn @ City and the Cubicle recently posted…Caitlyn Goes to Body PumpMy Profile

    • happy belated bday my dear! i think i felt the same way about 24, just wait til you hit 25 :) luckily, you dont really get that same feeling of anxiety again til 30 for the most part.

  13. I absolutely love your blog to death…. In fact, I was telling Her Happy Balance yesterday how I tune in everyday for some light laughter and delightful sarcasm. I’m about to turn 25, but I feel like I’m going on 40. Early bed times are my best friend and soul mate. The nights I go out and go crazy, it takes me like 4 times as long to recover as it did when I was 21. Happy early birthday you hawt thang, you! :) Ok, that made it sound like I’m not an old soul, but I really am. Have a wonderful day missy!
    Meghan @ fitnesscrEATures recently posted…Running Skirt!My Profile

    • lol yay if nothing else, i am all about delightful sarcasm. also delightful- going to bed at a reasonable hour and waking up feeling good! i know, i used to be immune to hangovers. those days are long gone. have a lovely day lovely!!

  14. So I’m 23, but I’m pretty sure I relate a lot more to your responses than I do to Taylor Swift…I don’t do the all-nighters or staying up super late very well anymore 😉 I’ll be 24 on October 24th (making me a Scorpio…and also making it my champagne birthday!) and I’m still excited about birthdays. I may flip out a little at 26, because then I’ll feel like I’m past the midway mark in my 20s.
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles recently posted…Bean and Bacon Soup.My Profile

    • Oh fun!! yeah swifty should have called that song 18 or something like that. (maybe she couldnt think of any rhymes) haha i think i flipped out at 25, and then ive been pretty even keeled since. i thought 30 would produce more anxiety, but it hasnt. (well, theres still time :) )

  15. I’ll be 25 in on November 25th (sag!). Starting to feel like a 1/4 of a century… maybe beginning the anxiety. I think the anxiety only stems from expectations I put on myself. Everyone does it I’m sure! Happy Birthday ahead of time!

P.S. Oh, how I miss Molly Shannon! I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LLLOVE IT!
Rustic Honey recently posted…Easy Southwest PinwheelsMy Profile

    • hahhah i love it love it love it!! ahh i miss that sketch so much. yeah the anxiety comes from expectations- at some point we just need to let go, do our best and let that be comforting. (im working on that :) )

  16. I totally needed to read this post…it definitely hits home, as I too will be turning 30 in August! I’m so not happy about it, but this list made me feel so much better and gave me a good laugh! :-)

    • yay another 1983-er!! :) i know, i was letting the pressure of turning 30 get to me (the expectations, what am i doing with my life, etc) but then i realized i needed to relax and take it all with a grain of salt. 30 is going to be awesome :)

  17. Girl, you are all kinds of hysterical! I am not a Taylor Swift fan so reading this post was right up my alley 😉 I am a Cancer, about to turn 23 in July. While I enjoy my birthday, they’ve never actually been a big deal to me. Turning 21 was the exception. So I guess this song is about my age group, but I suppose I am an old soul because bedtime for me is best when it is in the 9pm hour. And breakfast for dinner is delicious, but at midnight those pancakes might as well just skip being eaten and I can just attach them to my thighs. Also being miserable is never magical. Tay-Tay is cray cray. Happy Thursday, lady! :)

  18. I’m still a youngster, but everyone in my life tells me that I have the soul of a forty year old. As long as I don’t have the boobs (can I say that on here??) of a forty year old, I’m happy. Because, I know that by forty, the girls will be hangin’ realllll low. Lovely.

  20. Happy almost birthday, Charlotte! My hubs is turning 30 in June as well and I can guarantee you that the immature jokes and potty humor will not stop – so you’re alright!

I’m 27, a pisces and I like long walks on the beach. Whoops! That wasn’t a question was it? HA! The older I get the more anxiety the birthday gives me. And then I call my dad and remind him he has a(n) [insert age] year old and he feels worse than I do. I’m mean, I know.

No but seriously – 30 is awesome! Can’t wait to hear how you celebrate!

  22. LOVE this post! Happy early birthday Charlotte!!! And yes, I’m closer to 32 than 22… becuase I am currently 32! 😉 So far, my 30s have been some of the BEST years of my life though… got married, started running, about to get my masters in Human Nutrition, the list goes on. Really can’t complain. I say this to say that you will LOVE 30! Slight confession though… I may have had a minor mid-life crisis when I turned the big 3-0 (i.e. I got my first and only tattoo on my 30th birthday! Lol, smh!) :-)

  23. Happy birthday! First of all, this post cracked me up (as all your posts do)!

Secondly, the big 3-0 is actually pretty awesome; I’m 32, and I’m definitely partial to my 30s over my 20s. (I mean, really — while I appreciate T-Swizzle’s take on being 22, when I was that age I was busting my ass to write my college honors thesis, I was broke as a motherf*cker, I had no idea what I was going to do with my life, and I was in a lukewarm relationship that probably dragged on for way too long. Now I’m gainfully employed, I’ve sat bleary-eyed in the library at 0300 exactly NEVER since I finished grad school, and I’m happily married to an awesome dude. 30s FTW.)

This past birthday when I officially reached my “late 20’s” I definitley freaked out a bit, so I can relate. Time just flies by! I think referring to this as the 1st anniversary of your 29th is totally acceptable, i’ll join you on that when my time comes too. Enjoy your weekend, hun!
