Happy Friday!!

You guys, I am so sleepy today. I must have had too much fun over the last week :)

Like, forget the CAPS LOCK key, I’m using the NAPS LOCK key. Forget laptops, I’m typing this on my naptop. Forget Google Maps, I need Google Naps.

I could go on, but I’ll spare you. Also, I cant stop yawning as I write this because the above gif is making me yawn. Is it making you yawn? Quick, lets scroll down.)

So, what should we talk about today? Food? It is Foodstuff Friday after all, so food seems like a good choice…

But, nah, I’m more in the mood to talk about cocktails :)

My cocktails today are going to focus on champagne/prosecco. I just love a little bubbly in my cocktails especially in the summer. It’s very refreshing, don’t you think? And these aren’t just frou-frou oh let me take a little sip with my pinky in the air type of champagne cocktails either- perhaps you prefer gin? or whiskey? I have cocktails for you too, sailor.

First up, the classic with a twist: Pink Grapefruit Mimosa. It’s a delicious change of pace from the usual orange juice. (I actually tried this for the first time at Christine’s house while she was holding a brunch. It’s so yum.)

Next up, perhaps you’re in the mood for something that tastes a little more like a pine tree? Cool, the Southside Royale has you covered…

This one uses GIN:

And next, maybe you consider yourself a liquor connoisseur of sorts and prefer to stick to the darker libations. No problem, the Cork County Bubbles Cocktail can handle that…

This one uses WHISKEY:

And lastly, nothing screams summer to me like a Mojito, so cue the Champagne Mojito

This one uses RUM:

And if you truly don’t like the bubbles, how about an Old Spanish:

So there you go, a little something for everyone.

Happy cocktailing!

What are you doing this weekend?

Are you a cocktail fan, or do you tend to stick to wine/ beer/ non-alcoholic drinks?

Did you know it’s National Donut Day? Whats you favorite kind of donut? (I realize this blog’s values are out of whack when I mention National Donut Day and not National Running Day, which was Wednesday. Oh well.)

  1. Happy Friday! I don’t drink cocktails very often, but mojitos are sooooooooo good! And YAY for donut day!
Nicole @ Work in Sweats Mama recently posted…Hilly Hellacious or Bucolic Bliss? My Profile

    • yay for donut day indeed!! i know i love mojitos too :) have a great weekend! and again thank you soo much for helping me get the comment reply working!!

  2. If it makes you feel any better, I didn’t mention National Running Day either… buuuuuut then again, I didn’t mention National Donut Day. I would have if I knew it was, though!!

Happy Friday, girlie! I have to admit that I’m not much of a drinker anymore, and when I do drink, it’s usually a glass of red; but mojitos are freaking tasty and definitely scream summer.

    • Haha it’s so unfortunate Canada doesn’t have national donut day! i think you guys should definitely start that tradition :) mojitos really are freaking tasty in the summer, and also on vacations. i think they just make me think of warm weather. have a great weekend chica!!

  3. I love jelly stick donuts from Dunkin Donuts. Yum :) I am more of a wine or flavored beer girl. I used to do cocktails quite often before I had Elijah. After I had him I just couldn’t stomach them. I lost my tolerance! lol
Britt @ BrittsRunningStyle recently posted…Summer Runnin’ had me a Blast….Not.My Profile

    • yeah cocktails are a fun once in the while type of thing. i like fruit flavored beer like the wachusett blueberry, and i just found out about a watermelon one that i’d like to try :)

  4. Well, considering there’s still a little more than a year before I’m 21, obviously I tend to stick with non-alcoholic drinks. 😉 I’ve never heard of grapefruit in place of orange juice though–it sounds really interesting!

I didn’t know today was National Donut Day! My favorite kind of donut would probably have to be the ones that have the little custardy filling. Always love the creamy custardy filling! (I feel like this is starting to sound slightly inappropriate…switching subjects now.) And hey, not everyone’s a runner. It’s cool. :)
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles recently posted…Two Word ThursdayMy Profile

    • oh those donuts are good – i believe they’re called boston cream donuts. yay for boston :) and yes, i consider myself more of a bar methoder than a runner at this point in time :) have a great weekend girlie!

  5. Sadly I’m not a champagne kind of girl. My fave cocktail would have to be something tropical and extremely high in calories! Or, a Canadian classic, the Caesar, extra spicy!

I’m so excited to have zero plans this weekend! Hopefully that means catching up on lots of things from rest to housework to visits with friends and family!
    Happy Friday!

    • I just googled a canadian caesar cocktail, and its what we call a bloody mary! Ha, thats so funny, I wonder how they got different names north and south of the border (I bet there’s a wiki article that can explain it though). Yeah I’m more of a sweet cocktail kind of girl, I do enjoy a sip or two of a bloody from time to time though! have a wonderful weekend!!

      • It’s weird, but I don’t like bloody marys! I think the base is just tomato juice (?) whereas a Caesar uses Clamato (a combo of tomato and clam). Sounds disgusting but is so good!
Hope you’re having a good weekend indulging in some cocktails!

  6. I have spent many hours as a bartender in my life and so I am quite the fan of cocktails. I love mojitos, but am very picky about the way they are made. Someday I will make you an excellent one :) LOVE Proseco – it’s the best summer drink around. Happy Friday!

  7. And now, as if my Friday stress isn’t enough, I want to dip outta work and go have a drank! LOL! That grapefruit bubbly sounds right up my alley. I totally want that in mah bellllllay NOW. K, thanks. You may fly down and bring me some. :) I am going to have to go get a donut today! Thanks for the reminder!

  8. I may or may not subscribe to Dunkin Donuts email list so, yeah, I know it’s National Donut Day (free donut if you buy a beverage!)

Those cocktails look sooooooo good. I’m admittedly not a big drinker anymore (I get the spins), so when I actually do drink, it’s gonna be damn good. Like one of the recipes you posted, mhm!

I clicked that grapefruit mimosa one wondering how they made those fancy lime spiral things???
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because recently posted…Sweet Potato Carrot SoupMy Profile

    • HAHA! I now may or may not be a dunks email subscriber too :) I know those fancy lime swirls are awesome, i have no idea how those were made. i should find out and do a whole post just on garnishes. have a fantastic weekend!

  9. Yum Yum Yummy!…Just looking at the pictures this morning is making me happy for my planned weekend of fun!

  10. Laughed out loud at the NAPS LOCK key.. and for some reason, that whole part of this post reminded me of How I Met Your Mother. Those cocktails look/sound absolutely delicious. And I celebrated National Donut Day by making my own.. in an attempt to be a liiiiittle bit healthier than hitting up a Dunkin.
Taryn recently posted…National Doughnut DayMy Profile

    • i love that you celebrated by making your own! And after going to your post earlier, I’m not even kidding when I say your donuts looked better than the one i ate this morning! have a wonderful weekend girlie!

  11. naps lock!! haha i giggled. love it. pink grapefruit mimosa!!!? sounds amazing. ditto the mojito love– they remind me of summer, too. i never know what national “insert verb/noun” day it is. sometimes i think someone on twitter just wakes up and makes up a holiday and twitter/ social media makes everyone run with it. hehe. love it though.

    • Lol- i think you might be entirely accurate with that social media holiday invention concept. oh well, keep ’em coming! if someone could start one that gave us a day off of work too, that would be very much appreciated as well :)

  12. I’m a fan of super fruity girly cocktails. Or really, super bright colored ones!

  13. After years of sticking with rum and diet cokes, I think I’m officially becoming more of a cocktail person. I’ve been really liking gin lately (Tom Collins are my favourite right now) so I kind of really need to try that Southside Royale ASAP…and now you have me wanting a drink for when I get home!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles recently posted…Five Things Friday 06/07/13.My Profile

    • yay for branching out to new drinks! I’m not a huge gin fan but i’ll admit tom collins are really good. im happy its friday and that cocktail time is rapidly approaching :) have a great weekend!

  14. i love prosecco and bubbly! i cheated on my cleanse last night and had a very tiny glass of prosecco – it was just ONE of those days at work! I dont drink enough cocktails because I never take the time to make them, but they are PERFECT for the summer! happy Friday! XO
breanna recently posted…Happy National Running day!My Profile

    • sometimes a little prosecco is necessary at the end of a long day- thats barely cheating as far as I’m concerned :) happy friday, have a great weekend!

  15. I usually drink wine but I love a good mimosa! These drinks sound tasty! Hope you have a great weekend with lots of naps! :)
makingthymeforhealth recently posted…Pin It Party + Friday FunniesMy Profile

    • lol thank you, i hope to get lots of naps too! and yeah i like to stick to wine too but i’ve been realizing that as the weather has gotten warmer, i’ve been ordering mimosas a little more frequently. have a great weekend my dear!

  16. This whole yawn/naptop/tired thing made me just die of laughter. Seriously. It was a hot minute of trying-to-be-quiet-laughter-because-i-am-at-work. Those drinks looks YUM! I’m a wine drinker 95% of the time but adore a good, solid margarita, rocks with salt!

    Happy almost weekend! :)
Dana recently posted…Most Popular RecipesMy Profile

    • yup- sometimes a good cocktail is necessary to shake things up. i agree, i tend to stick to wine most of the year, but theres something fun about sitting outside and having a cocktail (margs especially!) happy almost weekend to you too!

I love cocktails! In San Francisco we always go to bottomless mimosas on the weekends and sometimes I wish they would serve a grapefruit mimosa instead of the original orange one. What a first world problem of mine!

    • hahaha yeah those are the best kind of problems :) bottomless mimosas sounds awesome! yet another reason i’d like to visit san francisco someday :) have a great weekend!

  18. Are you going to get a free doughnut today? It’s currently 10:15 in Kansas and I’ve yet to decide if getting a free doughnut is worth putting on pants and leaving my house…oh, how my priorities in life have changed! lol. Also, I’m IN LOVE with the sound of that bubbly mojito. Mostly because I love rum and rum in mojitos and rum and rum with champagne. And rum. So kudos to that, especially now that summer is upon us! Have a beautiful weekend, m’dear!
PS: Don’t you just wish Matthew Broderick could just be in everything, everywhere, all the time?
Chelsea recently posted…Friday Favorites #6My Profile

    • am i going to get a free donut today? giiiirrrrlll that decision was already made when it was in my belly this morning at 7:30am :) but yeah if i wasnt already on my way to work, im not sure it would be worth purposely putting on pants and leaving the house for. and lol YES- we need more matthew broderick. i couldnt agree more! have a wonderful weekend!!

  19. LOL! I literally almost laughed out loud when I read this –> “I realize this blog’s values are out of whack when I mention National Donut Day and not National Running Day, which was Wednesday. Oh well.” If it makes you feel any better, I didn’t mention it either. Silly me – ah well. Cheers to Friday & the weekend!!

  20. I didn’t celebrate national running day. Running is just not my thing, but a lot of blogs I read did mention it so maybe it was over hyped.
I actually don’t like donuts. I’m odd, but I always preferred muffins over them! So no favorite donut for me.
I’m not a huge cocktail fan (since I actually drink like a man) I prefer straight up vodka. Yah, I’m odd. Or, wine for sure.
    Have a beautiful Friday girl!
Lisa recently posted…Raw Walnut Butter and Coffee TalkMy Profile

    • Yeah running has taken a big back seat to bar method, pilates and yoga over the past year for me. and there is absolutely nothing wrong with preferring muffins– if i really had to choose I’d go for muffins too! and wow girl, straight vodka- way to be :) have a wonderful weekend chica!

  21. You really are a girl after my own heart. A whole post dedicated to cocktails? Love!

My in-laws are in town this weekend so we’ve got some dinners planned (Sunday is their 39th Anniversary!) and we are also going diving at the Georgia Aquarium. My stomach is already in knots!

Truth be told – if it’s got booze, I’ll drink it. I’m an equal opportunity drinker…wine, beer, champagne, liquor. Love it all!

    What’s your fav?
    Sara @ Fit.Fun.Femme recently posted…HIIT that SH*T – A New HIIT WorkoutMy Profile

    • Lol, I love an equal opportunity drinker! come hang out in boston anytime! :) It totally depends for me- i think i probably do wine most, but if we’re in a pub then its beer and if we’re at a place with good cocktails then its cocktails. have a great time with your inlaws this weekend! happy anniversary to them! and that is so cool, i didnt know you could dive at aquariums- looking forward to reading your post on it!!

  22. You know how seeing someone yawn makes us yawn? Well guess what, I just disproved that theory cause I DID NOT YAWN while looking at this gif and reading your post. Ha, take that universe!

…… Okay, I JUST yawned. Damnit.
