Ok, so, I’ve talked a bit on the subject before, but summer is really not my season. I don’t do well in suffocating humidity, I’m not a strong swimmer, the list goes on. Usually when people get all bummed this time of year because summer is ending, I don’t want to seem like some sort of summer-hater, so I go along with the conversation, nodding politely as they verbally mourn the final days of the season… but on the inside I’m actually, ridiculously, thrilled.

its too hot 1

And I have a theory that there are more out there just like me, who have been silenced by all the summer-lovers. So to all you fall-preferers, this list is for you.

Top 8 Reasons I’m Jazzed Summer Is Over

8. Fall clothing! More specifically, long pants and layers. Personally, I look better in more clothes than less. As does 98% of the general population, in my humble opinion.

7. Pumpkin flavored things everything! Oh, what’s that you got there… Pancakes? Coffee? Spaghetti? Ice cream? For the next 6-8 weeks it’s going to be pum-cakes, pumpkinffee, spumpkin-ghetti and pumpkin ice cream, respectively.

6. I have an excuse to do nothing! Quick confession: sometimes I absolutely love doing nothing. Do you know how hard that is in the summer when everyone’s all: “but the weather is perfect, we can’t just waste perfect days like this indoors doing nothing”. We can in fall though!

5. Pretty boots! (Sarah knows what I’m talking about)

4. Equality! So, I currently make my way to an office every day for work. Which is cool all year round except in the summertime when all the students and teachers and Europeans get like 3 months off and I feel like everybody is having fun without me. In the fall though, everybody has to get back to work, and I once again feel that all is fair in the world muahaha :)

3. It gets dark earlier! I love going to bed early and it’s just impossible in the summer. Trying to fall asleep when it’s still light outside is like trying to make ‘fetch’ happen. It’s not going to happen.

stop trying to make fetch happen

2. FALL TV- Scandal returns!! Get psyched Olivia Pope fans!

1. No more sweating like a beast while I’m standing still.

So, who’s with me?

What’s your favorite part about fall?

Do you watch Scandal? What show are you excited about?

  1. Haha-oh my that movie was too funy!
Yup – long pants and long sleeves, pumpkin flavored EVERYTHING, and boots are things I love about fall – but – I am one of those annoying people that simply adores summer – I love the heat, the humidity, the sweating bucketloads when standing – I love it all !

  2. girl, I am 100% with you!!! It is so true, everyone is always so upset that summer is over, but inside I am secretly cheering. haha I LOVE absolutely everything about Fall. Pumpkin everything, sweaters, boots.. LOVE it all. Oh and being able to do things outside without immediately feeling all sweaty and gross? Yes, please! :-)

  3. Someone should really try and make fetch happen.

I find it so funny how everything pumpkin you’ve mentioned is sweet like- here in Australia its a strictly savoury food, but thats something I’ve adopted from the blog world- sweet concoctions with it!

The worst thing about Summer is definitely how its bright as hell at 9pm… and the birds start singing at 5. Stupid birds.
Arman @ thebigmansworld recently posted…Sunshine on a rainy dayMy Profile

    • oh its true everything involving pumpkin is sweet here. however, I went to a middle eastern restaurant a while back and had my first dish where pumpkin was combined with chicken and tomato sauce- i thought it was going to be gross- but it was DELICIOUS!

  4. Still laughing about 98% of the population looking better in layers. Amen! I’m not a summer hater, but I love me some fall too! Long-sleeve tees, fleece, the perfect jeans. Wardrobe heaven! And there is nothing cuter than jeans on a toddler. Abso-freakin-lutely adorable! I love when the leaves change colors & I absolutely love cooler running temps! Yes, fall is fabulous!

  6. Fall/Winter is the best for getting creative with your wardrobe! You get to have fun with it, and make yourself snug & warm in the process :)

Summer is a battle to wear something that isn’t going to show the dreaded sweat patches forming on you … also mostly like caused by standing still 😛

  7. My favorite season is summer, but I do like fall too. I love boots, sweaters, scarves, pumpkin and apple picking and the gorgeous leaves. I also love the fact that I don’t have to redo my hair 10x a day because there’s no humidity! 😉

    • oh ive just given up on my hair in the humid boston summers. most people probably find the extreme frizziness of my hair offensive to their eyes, and to be honest i wouldnt blame them :)

  8. You may have a change of opinion if you lived in Canada…I don’t mindddd fall but summer trumps all! Everything pumpkin and Thanksgiving does give fall somewhat redeeming qualities!

  9. Ah I LOVE FALL!! I will say it now…I could live the rest of my life without summer! I didn’t go swimming this year…not once. And I live no where near a beach so I don’t need it! :) My favorite thing about fall is the pumpkin coffee!! The BEST thing in the world. But fall is like a special time…I hate it but I love that it takes so long to get here. Makes me appriciate it even more! 😀

  10. No!!! I don’t mind fall but I really do love summer – everything about it – shorts, bikinis, flip flops!!! I am excited to bust out my boots again though so there is that! And, Saturdays in the fall are perfect for sitting around all day with college football and maybe a project in front of me.

  11. You just reminded me of all the reason I love fall. It’s my favorite season but I still cry when summer ends. Every. Single. Time. And I’m still sad for about a month until I realize how amazing fall is. And that’s also when Baltimore temps fall below 88 degrees…

  12. Wait I literally almost just started crying when I read the part about Scandal. I. AM. SO. OBSESSED. Confession: over the last couple of days, I rewatched the first two seasons because…well…I can…and school’s about to start which means that I can’t do it then and I NEED SCANDAL TO COME BACK INTO MY LIFE RIGHT NOW BECAUSE THIS SUSPENSE IS KILLING ME AND JAKE NEEDS TO GET OUT OF THAT HOLE.

  13. Fall is probably my favorite season, but I do generally love summer too. However, I’ve been soooooo hot this summer being preggers that I’m totally down for some cooler weather. I’m blasting the AC like it’s going outta style, and the cold hubby ain’t happy.

  14. I have to reluctantly agree with everything on this list. I used to enjoy summer when I was a student because it meant two full months of horsing around and working whatever hours I wanted to at my part time job. Now though, I have to stare out to the outside world from an office desk and it’s more depressing than it raining all the time! So, yes, I’m MORE than excited for fall as well! I love all the seasonal foods and flavors you mentioned and there is nothing more fun than matching coats with fun scarves. :) YAY for this excitement! The only downfall to the getting dark earlier thing though, at least in Atlanta, is that the amount of car accidents after work sky rocket. I’m talking an accident everywhere because commuters don’t understand driving in the dark. Hmmm….
Meghan @ fitnesscrEATures recently posted…I Cooked and the World Still Spins! My Profile

    • you’re kidding!! wow i didnt realize atlanta drivers cant drive in the dark. i grew up in NJ, and NJ drivers cant drive in the snow (or rain for that matter) MA drivers drive in the snow like it ain’t no thang, and its kinda crazy actually.

  15. Unfortunately for me, except for the whole “getting darker earlier” thing, none of these come until December!! South Florida is actually JUST as bad in Sept as it is in August, and October is just full of rain, humidity and hurricanes. November is where the relief is but I still don’t feel like I can bust out anything related to fall (except mass amounts of pumpkin). My favorite part about fall weather is riding boots!!

  17. While I do love summer, I have to admit that Fall is my favourite season. I do love me a good scarf, leather jacket and pair of boots…and stocking my pantry with a million cans of pumpkin. Plus my birthday is in October, which should clearly be a universal reason why everyone loves Fall. :-p

    • omg i’m sooo excited to get my hair looking decent again. my hair just floats with frizziness a good 10 inches away from my head on given summer day. its absurd, and yes i let it win, i no longer even try to tame it.

  19. I bought a trench coat a couple of weeks ago, and I want it to be fall just so I can wear it.

I LOVE Scandal. In fact, I loved it during the short first season before anyone else knew what it was. I know – I sound like those kids who talk about knowing songs before they came on the radio, but it’s true!

    • hahaha oh im that kid who talks about the band Fun. because i liked them before they were famous, brag all you want :) i LOVE that show. and whenever i get fall clothes in summer, i alwaayyyys end up pushing the season and wearing a coat or a sweater on an 80 degree day. my excitement gets the better of me :)

  20. I cannot wait for Scandal to start again. And I cannot wait to be able to wear jeans and boots again. My favorite!-Ashley

  21. I can’t wait for fall, too. I am my happiest in the fall usually, and not just because I can go to haunted houses and act like a five year old.

  22. I’m -definitely- with you.. for pretty much all the reasons you mentioned. It’s not that I -hate- summer, but it’s a little too bubbly for me. Fall has that peaceful relaxed vibe to it that I love. And the whole food, fashion, and gorgeous colours don’t hurt matters either. I’ve been noticing it cool down and get darker earlier, and I’m already doing secret happy dances in my head. Woop!

LOL to number 6! It is so, so true. I always feel like I have to go do things because of the weather but fall gives me the prime excuse to sit on my ass and read blogs all day. Hooray!

  25. Although I do love summer (I’ve got a summer birthday, so I have to love it), fall has my heart. the clothes, the weather, food and football. Yep, bring on fall!

  28. I love fall too. I love cold weather in general. I’m SO with you in that most people look better in clothes and layers. I think women are the most beautiful when they’re wearing a cute hat, scarf, and boots. I need boots – thanks for the reminder! I’m DOWN with all the pumpkin everything starting soon. Best part of fall by far. Really, the end of this summer is bittersweet for us Atlantans bc we didn’t really get one this year. It was rainy and cool all summer. Kinda sucked. So while I just want it to go away since it did nothing for me at all, I feel like I was cheated out of a summer. Unless you count 2 months of consistently frizzy hair as a summer, I feel like I was robbed.

  31. Fall is my favorite season by far, several reasons:

Fall colors really work with brunette hair & overall complexion.
Halloween is prooobably my fave holiday (already have my DIY costume planned)
Cute Boots & Pumpkin EVERYTHING like you said (& cinnamon, & cloves oh my!)
Cooler weather (Nashville gets HOT HOT HOT in the summer)
FOOTBALL returns (and football means TAILGATING)!
Running outdoors gets a lot easier to manage (again cooler temps) :)

Summer runs a close second, but fall has my heart <3
