So, as you may already know, healthy living bloggers do a lot of product reviews. But, I’m not really one of them. Until today.

Today I’m going to show you my gear.

Since I don’t really run that often, I’ve never invested in any cool gear. I don’t have the water bottle belt, nor a Garmin, nor the arm band nor fanny pack nor shorts-with-a-pocket to hold your phone while you run. But I really don’t like holding my phone when I’m doing fitnessy things of any nature, so, one day I decided to improvise.

And I made the Sock Pocket.

sock

Procedure:

Take a sock that has lost its match, but you still keep in your drawer with the hope that the match will one day reappear.

Let go of that hope.

Cut the sock in half.

Fasten it to the inside of your pants with 2 safety pins.

Bam.

Insert all the money you just saved.

Dolla dolla bill y’all*

And oh what’s that? You’re in the mood for it on the other hip now?

No problem. It’s elegant safety pin design allows for easy removal and rearranging on your person.

When you’re done taking selfies, insert your phone into the Sock Pocket, and proceed to run/ walk/ Bar Method/or just lay back down on the couch.

*Note: to make it less stripper-rific, stick a credit card in there instead**.

**Plus a credit card is just more practical since you never know what you’re going to need on the road- like fro yo, something from cvs, a taxi… in other words, something the old George Washington won’t cover.

How do you carry your phone and money when you run/exercise?

Are you crafty? (This is the extent of my craftiness)

Do you hang on to match-less socks too??

Does anyone else have the Hot Pockets theme in their head now?

  3. Hahaha! I so do have the sock pockets..err hot pockets theme in my head now!!!!
I have a sandwich bag/pocket I use for my phone cos am a sweater and my phone is not waterproof. Nope not as crafty as you – I think you need to go on Shark Tank and have them fight over financing this money saving invention of yours …yes, I will NOT feel bad if you feel the need to pay me for my suggestion 😉
    Great post girl!

  4. We are on the same wave length- I did my first product review today too, but on a much lower scale to you in both product AND creativity- you shouldn’t have published this on the internet- now Garmin and Reebok are going to rip it off next week!

You also have me craving a pizza hot pocket now.

  5. I have never wished I was crafty or into running more than right this minute. But since you cleared us to also just go sit on the couch, I’m in! It’s the elegant safety pin design that really sent me over the edge. I may try mine up front on my stomach, kangaroo style. I’m going to put things in it like a Fiber One bar for snacking. You’ve taken the pesky lone sock, added craftiness, multiplied by fashion, and come out with the perfect thing. SOCK POCKET FOR THE WIN! –Lisa

  6. Aren’t you the crafty one?? I love the “dolla dolls bill y’all” one of the best songs ever…that I actually used to run to.
I was just lamenting that a pair of my fav running shorts didn’t have a pocket – no more!! Thanks!!

  7. 😆 😆 Oh girl, I can always count on you for a good laugh first thing in the morning <3 The only problem I'd have with making a sock pocket is that most of my socks end up with holes in the toes before they end up with missing partners… and I'm guessing it would be a little awkward to be running and have things wiggle through the holes and slide down my pants. And don't even talk to me about sewing them up… I'm not that crafty 😉

    • hahaha the vision of the hole in the toe and things dropping out is making me laugh- my first prototype of the sock pocket was actually too big (socks are stretchy) and my phone kept sliding farther down my leg, not a nice feeling :)

  8. Better submit your patent application pronto before this idea is stolen! And, yes, now I kinda want a Hot Pocket!

  11. Hahaha oh boy. This is a good one. Actually this would be right up my alley because my dog eats ALL of our socks (I don’t even know how he gets them) so I have a pile full of half socks.

  12. Haha you’re my kind of crafter, that’s about as far as I go to in that department! I have an arm band for my phone so I can listen to my music while I work out. I could totally add a sock pocket to my workout ensemble. It’s always good to have extra room for snacks!

    • i actually had an earlier prototype- i cut it too big, and my phone kept stretching the sock out and inching down my leg. i finally got the right size on the 2nd go so it stays in place. crafts are hard! :)

  14. Oh my, I could cuddle you for this idea. It’s soooooo good! I have a few running shorts which already have an inside pocket, but some others don’t and I will definitely use some (I have far to many of them) of my single socks for this purpose. Thanks :)

  18. HAHAHA, yes a credit card is less “stripperiffic.” Love this and love you. To be honest, this is a great idea – I refuse to wear running shorts or tights without a small pocket for my phone, but I don’t carry anything else. All jokes aside, pretty sure I’m going to try this…

  19. Haha – I love this!! Genius!!! Not only a money saver but a way to use up something that otherwise might get pitched out!
I actually make myself leave my phone at home on some of my short runs – I figure it is good for me on occasion (plus I hate carrying it – now that problem is solved!).

  20. Thanks for putting the Hot Pockets theme in my head…I’ll be thinking about you all day! This is hilarious and amazing. I didn’t have any fancy gear until I really starting running distances and learned why it is that fancy gear is worth it, but you are so right that so much of that stuff is overpriced and unnecessary. I do love my running belts, though, full of snacks! And my running pants with pockets! This, though, is an excellent idea for a concert or a walk in a park or something. I have many, many socks with no mates and I had lots of hope until you just told me to give it up. Thanks a lot :( Hope your back is feeling better!

    • hahahaha ah yes, destroying hope- my favorite job as a fitness blogger :) yeah- ive never gone a long distance with this thing, but for a short little spurt, its great. and my back is doing much better!! thanks!!

  21. Oh my goodness, Charlotte I adore you. Pretty sure that’s about as creative as I can get – and I have random partner-less socks floating around in my drawer…even though after a move it’s pretty much guaranteed that those are never going to reappear even again. I don’t take money on runs, but my phone usually goes in my sports bra. I’m full of class, clearly. :-p

  22. This is too cute! For a while when I didn’t have an armband, I would just stuff my phone into my sports bra…but then it got water (sweat) logged, I know it’s gross. So then I broke down and bought an armband, and since that day, i have proceeded to lose 3 armbands. Yay.

  24. Lol so crafty and clever! Love this idea. I know I have enough socks that have lost their match that I could come up with a few to make this work. I’m like you though, not too often a runner but when I do this could come in handy. Thanks!

  25. I can’t even tell you how many socks I have in my drawer in hopes ONE DAY I’ll find its partner. Lol I’m not going to lie, I never would have though of doing this but it seems pretty genius! I usually just stuff my phone in my sports bra and hope for the best.

  26. Haha, why are you so awesome. I kind of know we would be great friends in real life.
I honestly don’t understand how socks go missing. Like I put both of them into my washing machine but only one comes out…it’s the worst. I have SO many pairs of matchless socks, I actually don’t think I own any that truly match.

  27. OMG this is genius…I need to recreate asap! I usually run with my phone in my hand and while it’s been fine for now, I am pretty sure it would start to annoy me as my runs got longer! I’ve tried running with cash in my socks but that just felt too wrong to continue with 😉

  31. Haha! Oh man Charlotte, have you considered bringing your idea to the Shark Tank? Look at you, Ms. Entrepreneur. :) I bought a little cozy for my phone that wraps around my wrist (kind of resembles an expensive sock). I don’t like it much because I feel like I have a bionic arm. Sock cozy sounds more efficient.

  34. The next time I read about bloggers with all their fancy gear and feel bad about my lack of any cool fitness gadgets…I will think of this post! :) A sock pocket is genius. Ooo also, you should invest in a phone case that holds cards. I have one and keep my credit card and ID in it. Best.invention.ever.

  35. Too funny and very creative :) But seriously, I’d never even think of something as simple as this. I actually listen to music on my phone and I hold it….awkward and uncomfortable. I’d say it’s time to make a sock pocket!

Also, sad fact: even if I brought my credit card, I’d have to run at least 50 miles to get a CVS, fro-yo, or a taxi.
