Since this is Thinking Out Loud Thursday, I thought I’d share my inner monologue.

If you missed Tuesday’s post, to put the following struggle in context, I’m in the first week of eating Primal. (Aka detoxing from processed foods.)

I am expressing this 8-part conversation between Devil Charlotte and Angel Charlotte purely in gifs because sometimes Mindy Kaling and Harry Potter gifs are able to express my innermost thoughts and feelings better than words.

However, no matter what your dietary preferences are, I think this conversation is going to look/ sound familiar to absolutely everybody who has ever tried to cut out junk food.

8. Devil me:

7. Angel Me:

6. Devil Me:

5. Angel me:

4. Devil me:

3. Angel Me:

So yeah, overall the Primal diet is going well– Angel Charlotte is winning! While I still crave candy and carbs, I’m not going hungry. So I have that going for me. I’ve been equipping my kitchen with things I didn’t have before like eggs, coconut oil, almonds  and buffalo meat. (I know, I know, these are staples in most people’s homes -minus the buffalo meat- but I’m used to eating out a lot :/ )

Thank you for hosting, Miss Amanda!

What are the top 3 staples in your kitchen you simply cant live without?

How many days a week do you grocery shop? (This past week I’ve had to go 3 times in 4 days)

PS- THANK YOU for all your comments offering support and advice- you’ve made my week so much easier!!

PPS- Sorry if all the moving things in this post made you dizzy, uncomfortable and/or nauseated.

  2. I love all gifs with Mindy and/or Alec Baldwin so thank you for that. The grocery store and I meet 3-4 times per week. It’s one of the sulkiest parts of eating healthy. My three staples are fruit, veggies and natural peanut butter…which is why I’m always at the store. Welcome to healthy eating! :-)

  4. I think have all had those thoughts/feelings at any given point! Buffalo meat is delicious. I have to have bananas and peanut butter in the house at all times!

  5. Buffalo meat? Dude that’s practically a loaf of bread. And what is this fallacy that eggs are MIA in your kitchen? They are without a doubt my staple…eaten with carbs.

  6. organic: chicken, veggies, lettuce (kale or romaine), tomatoes, cucumbers, fruits.

    avocados, fresh baked semolina bread.

to make it easier to shop in one shot, meal plan. as in sit down and write out all meals you’re going to eat for the week; this includes snacks! then bring that list to the store.

    • You’ve become my guru this week (not that you werent already)- I’m making a list at my desk now and meeting eric after work at whole foods. avocados are at the top of the list!

  7. I love buffalo but I can never find it around here…must try to change that. Also – I really wish I got that excited about eating lettuce.

  9. Hhaha those gifs are so perfect. Glad to hear angel Charlotte is winning! Staples in my kitchen are bananas, pb/almond butter, and granola bars of some sort.

  10. Hahaha, I feel like I am CONSTANTLY fighting between angel-me and devil-me, and each wins depending on the day. Like, for example, I’m lying in bed right now instead of exercising, or getting up and preparing a nutritious breakfast, or exploring what Chicago has to offer…my bed just feels so good!! STOP IT DEVIL-ME! See, that’s what I do to try to get my butt back in gear. I’ll report back as to whether or not it worked. Time for a nap.

P.S. GOOD LUCK with your primal eating. I’ve never tried it myself, and I have mixed feelings about restricting good carbs and such, but I DEFINITELY think that detoxing is great in terms of reducing processed foods and sugars and stuff!

  11. Oh can I relate! It’s so hard to cut those foods out of your diet that you’ve been used to eating for years and years. BUT, once you get over that initial hump, I think it’ll totally be worth it. Glad Angel Charlotte is winning out so far!

  12. LOL…. Love the mindy Kaling gifs. She cracks me up.

Just be open with the primal thing. It will take some time to get fat adapted, but once you do, you’ll never look back. Okay, you’ll look back for the occasional pizza, but other than that…

  13. Yikes – I try not to go to the grocery store every week!!! I do a big shopping trip every 3-4 weeks and then grab a few things (milk, produce…) in between!
Kim recently posted…Time Is a Valuable CommodityMy Profile

    • Oh wow, i like your style. i would try to do that if i didn’t have to walk to the store. It’s 2 miles round trip, so whatever i buy i have to carry. I’m not strong enough to carry a month’s worth of food yet :)

  14. Love the gifs! Three of my staples are peanut butter, bananas, and leafy greens.

  15. haha this is awesome!! So I’ve had buffalo quite a few times unknowingly. In most restaurants in Mumbai, it’s illegal to serve beef so when I first moved here, I’d order a burger only to realise that it was buffalo meat over beef…I liked it! I am glad the diet changes is working out well for you so far- am sure it’s only going to get better! Three kitchen staples for me are eggs, apples and broccoli…there are plenty of other staples so I just chose the 3 which came to mind first ha!

  16. I excessively grocery shop. Well this week I actually only got stuff on Friday/Saturday/Sunday which was huge for me (just randomly stopping at my different stops throughout the weekend). I like going on Friday because it isn’t as crazy busy!

  18. I will say, despite my earlier comment, watching or really reading about your transition is highly entertaining and so much more appealing than when other bloggers take on the new high protein diet. You had me laughing and since I’m a fan of comedy in blog writing, I will be coming back.

Three items always in my home: granola (always homemade), fruit (bananas for sure and generally some berries) and eggs (give me all the eggs woman!).
