So, last week we did Food and Fitness Limericks. Therefore, this week it only seems apt that we do Fitness and Food Haikus. (Apt partially because one good literary device deserves another, but mostly because I love a good partial rhyme in a title.)

…Or anywhere, really.

The following notes are addressed to things, concepts and notions. The body of the note is in the 5-7-5 syllable pattern known as haiku.

Here we go.

bar method haiku

7.

running haiku

6.

psl haiku

5.

west side story haiku

4.

venn haiku

3.

banana haiku

2.

acne haiku 1

1.

dessert haiku

Questions:

It’s truth time- do you actually like Pumpkin Spice Lattes or just the idea of them? (I want to like them, I just don’t.)

Are you over the age of 20 and do you still get acne? (Yes.)

Do you prefer dinner or dessert? (Calories and nutritional value not withstanding, I would ideally eat dessert for every meal.)

  1. Can we please get PSL just for the sake of it then throw them out?

You are a linguistic genius. Let’s talk in Haiku from this day forth.

    (No thanks.)

  2. Bwahaha! I am gonna have to borrow #4 next time I am at ‘Bucks!!!

And heck yeah – dessert over dinner is a bandwagon I will jump on and never wanna get off! If I throw some beets in my cookies and cupcakes – they are (almost) like a handheld salad -nutritionally speaking – right? 😉

Thanks lady – I love starting my morning of with a laugh! xx

  3. It’s about time someone told dessert to break-up with dinner…I mean really, receives no respect for everything dessert does! LOL

  4. I hate Pumpkin Spice Lattes! I don’t even think I like the idea of them. The idea I DO like is couples battling West Side Story style. I would pay to see that!

  5. OMG I love the dessert one. bahahahahahaha.
And kudos for the Venn Diagram reference. I feel like Venn Diagrams are drastically under appreciated these days.
Bananas do spill in your purse. True story. Not pretty.
I’ve never had a PSL and I don’t intend to–hel-LO too many calories! (Cher Horowitz like gasp) AS if! Nah, it has nothing to do with that, I just don’t really like the idea of paying $5 for something that is as fake as Taylor Swift’s “genuine” appreciation for everything in life (I went there). Have you ever seen her in concert? It is appalling.

    • Lol Susie I absolutely adore and respect all the clueless, swifty and venn diagram references in this comment– I’m so glad we’re on the same page about all the important things in life!

  6. I don’t really like pumpkin anything and I especially don’t like PSL!!!
I would probably eat double dinner and skip dessert – you can have mine:)

  7. I love good Haikus, PSLs are tasty too, Happy Tues to you!

(bonus points for rhyming my haiku, right?)

  8. I’ll write my response in the form of a much-less catchy haiku:
    Dessert one is good
    I much prefer dinner though
    Give me PSLs

    • Hahahah I love this haiku! Lots of ppl prefer dinner, personally if it was socially acceptable to order dessert for dinner and then another dessert for dessert, i would :)

  9. I do like the idea of pumpkin spice lattes – but then my general dislike of coffee in general gets in the way. I have to stick to pumpkin spice tea, and while delicious, I have a feelings it’s not nearly as fun.

Adult acne is such a pain in the ass. I never used to get it, but then as soon as I went off my BC – bam! It sucks.
And yes on dessert before dinner!

  10. Haha, you;re so witty! I love #1 and #2. I am 30 and would absolutely have breakouts if it wasn’t for the script I’m on. It’s a life saver!

    • Ohh an Rx- that’s brilliant- mine has gone away for the most part compared to what it was like in mid-20s, but every now then it rears its ugly head (pun intended)

  11. I’m with you on the PSL — good in theory, poor in execution. I tried one once and couldn’t stomach more than a few sips. I’ll stick to black coffee and pumpkin muffins, thanks. I’d also like to break up with dinner and adult acne. In my perfect world, I’d eat dessert for every meal and have flawless skin. If only.

    • If only! and yeah I agree– I’m good with the coffee/baked good combination over combining them all into one cup. There IS such thing as too much of a good thing.

  12. Dear Sweaty F***-Head Person at the Gym,

After you’re done on MY machine, wipe it down, clean
    You dirty fean
    You’re just plain mean
    Like a highschool teen
I’m going to kick your ass
    Like a kick-boxing pro lass!

    Um………..????

  13. And this is why you and I would make the best of friends- dessert first always please ;)! And I’m not a fan of PSLs either- the idea of them sounds great but in theory, they’re basically diabetes in a cup. Okay that came across harsher than I meant but you know what I mean- SO freakin’ sweet!

  14. I don’t drink lattes at all, so they can keep them whatever gag flavor they have at the moment and it doesn’t effect me. However, I do love lots of other pumpkin and fall flavored things…especially desserts. Do desserts for you include only sweet desserts or savory ones as well?

And acne all the way! Although it has tamed down some. Things that have helped:
Using regular soap to wash my face
Not using crazy moisturizers because my face seems to do the job on it’s own
Wearing mineral powder make up when I need to wear any at all

  15. As a Starbucks employee I feel entitled to say the PSL is complete shit, and I hate it being on the menu. It’s not coffee, it’s crap in a cup. I’ve only ever had one in my life, two years ago. The barista did not tell me there was milk in the sauce after I asked for soy and NO whip, clearly indicating I was not interested in any milk products. SO I found out later and cursed her in my mind and moved on. Long story short I don’t drink them because I don’t drink milk AND because the sugar/ingredient content genuinely frightens me.
Brittany recently posted…Starbucks Christmas Espresso Coffee TastingMy Profile

    • Hahaha YES! And thats so annoying they didn’t tell you there was milk in the sauce and even more annoying that there is a “sauce” needed for a cup of coffee. Just, no.

  16. Yes, yes, and yes!! I agree with you on the disdain for PSL (seriously…I don’t understand the obsession), I, too, still get acne and I am 22 (especially right before that time of the month), AND I could probably eat dessert for every meal. Or at least have a dessert with every meal. Can this be the new normal?

  17. loving this so hard right now. 1) adult acne GIVEMEABREAK. It’s so frustrating. Never in a million years did I think, a decade ago when I first when to a dermatologist, that I’d be 23 years old and STILL dealing with acne. 2) I’m the same way about the pumpkin spice latte haha I love the idea of it but I think I order maybe one every fall, just to see if my taste buds have changed haha. Now the holiday caramel brulee latte? Different story. Swoon!

  18. I’m laughing over here as always! Ugh, I’m with you on #2 – my skin has sucked since like age 12 and I’m over it.

Dessert so deserves to be it own thing! I have an aunt that routinely eats dessert before dinner – it’s kind of awesome.

  19. OMG, I love these so much :) Also we are both named Charlotte (AND you don’t spell it with an “S”); so therefore we are kindred spirits. Oy. YES to couples fighting over dinner (WHY?? WHY ARE THEY ALWAYS NEXT TO US??), but I do love me some pumpkin spiced lattes. Mmm… PS: Acne never goes away. According to my face, which is 35 years old :)
