Omg you guys, I’m so excited about today’s smoothie that I’m just going to skip over the intro entirely and welcome back to the blog my dear friend and smoothie maker extraordinaire, Bevan!!

Bevan is back y’all. And she comes bearing gifts. The gift of a delicious smoothie and pictures of her new kitten, Randall. (In the words of Bevan, “he’s not a kit-nine, he’s a kit-TEN”)

Yay for Randall! I’ve recently started calling him ‘the Great Ran-DALLy’ like he is a magician or an illusionist or a WWE wrestler.

The Almond Kitten Smoothie

(No kitten helper necessary, but suggested)

  • 1 handful of frozen kale
  • 1/2 a pear
  • handful of blueberries
  • 1 cup of almond milk
  • 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder
  • 1 scoop of green vibrance

Happy Friday all!

Anything big planned this weekend?

Are you a dog person or a cat person? Neither? Both? (I’m a bit more of a dog person, but Randall might make me a convert :) )

Do you have a pet? What’s his/her name??

It’s FRIDAY!!!

I was looking for something funny to insert above but I got distracted by how shiny this pic is. It’s so sparkly. I love it.

ANYWAYS my dears, it’s Friday. I am off work today for an amazing 4-day, yup not 3 but 4-day, weekend (don’t hate) and I’m in a fantastic mood about it.

So lets get right down to the subject at hand shall we- it’s smoothie time!! You may remember last week’s Downtown Mr Brown Smoothie. Well, meet his fancier cousin: the Uptown Dr Brown Smoothie.

Last week:                                   This week:

smoothie     smoothie egt

As you can see, they are both brown and they look amazingly similar to one another.

But the one on the right is ‘Uptown’ because it’s ingredients are quite a bit more decadent than it’s ‘Downtown’ relative. And it has been upgraded from ‘Mr’ to ‘Dr’ because Eric (who has his PhD) created this one entirely on his own. (Yup, smart, handsome, and good in the kitchen, swoon :) )

Me and Eric! Halloween '12.We never remember to take pictures unless we look ridiculous. This is actually one of our best looks.

NOTE: Other names for today’s smoothie include: The OranguTAN, the Wacky Khaki, and the Crazy Beigey.

Ingredients (good for 2 portions):

  • 2 bananas
  • 1 basket of strawberries
  • 2 scoops of chocolate or chocolate-coconut whey protein powder
  • 1 scoop of peanut butter
  • 2.5 cups of water OR coconut milk

Blend all that stuff together until smooth and you’ll have the tastiest cold concoction ever!

Alright, there you have it! Short-ish post today because I have already checked out mentally and I invite you to do the same.

What’s the first nonsensical word that pops into your head? Tell me in the comments! (“fugly” is mine)

Or if your head is still in the game and you have no time for nonsense til 5pm today then tell me your favorite SAT word (mine is “mellifluous”)

Have a happy and safe memorial day, y’all!!!

Remember when Friday used to mean:

Ahh good times. I could not be happier it’s the weekend. I say that every week, but every week it’s true.

Kinda like when I run, my body turns off around mile 3, when I work my brain turns off around Thursday. So the fact that there are Friday posts on this blog is really quite remarkable to it’s blogger. (And yes, I’m congratulating myself for a 5-day work week, around here we celebrate mediocrity with gusto)

So today on Foodstuff Friday, I’m featuring a smoothie concocted by amateur smoothie makers- me and Eric! While I do feature smoothies all the time on this blog, they are usually created by somebody else, namely my mom or Bevan. And while I’m very good at following smoothie recipes, Eric and I decided it was time to make one up ourselves.

First we went to the grocery store to get the stuff. And, you know how when you embark on a task with the goal of making it the best thing ever it suddenly makes you forget how to do everything related to that task?? Like when you want to write the best post ever and suddenly you forget how to string words together into sentences? Well, Eric and I walked into the produce section of Whole Foods like we had never picked out fruit before.

“What should we get?” We kept asking each other quietly as we strolled slowly and wide eyed around the citrus fruits.

Mangoes? Mangoes! We both narrowed our eyes on the mango display and darted over. The only problem was, there were so many different kinds. We normally get the pre-cut mangoes for the ease and accessibility factors but when we saw that something called CHAMPAGNE MANGOES were on sale and sounded fancy we were intrigued. So we got both.

Then we got some kale- once again we stood staring at the kales trying to think of what the best one might be. I actually don’t remember which one we got. And then we also picked up some pineapple, berries and plain greek yogurt. In list form that looks like:

  • Mangos
  • Champagne Mangos
  • Kale
  • Pineapple
  • Blueberries
  • Raspberries
  • Blackberries
  • Plain Greek Yogurt

So then we got home, put the stuff away and went for a hike around the pond, which if you forget what that looks like, I’ll remind you:

And after the hike, we were so thirsty/hungry we were so excited to make the smoothie. We plopped all the ingredients into the blender,  added some ice and a little bit of water and voila!

Brown! (thus the name: ‘Downtown Mr Brown Smoothie’)

It doesn’t look pretty but mark my words it was sensational. We didn’t blend it into oblivion because I personally love a really thick smoothie  (and yes I like to chew my beverages- I like my orange juice in the form of pulp with a splash of juice) so this was really really good. Eric and I credit the 2 types of mangoes  for making it so delicious.

And there you have it. I hope you all have absolutely fantastic weekends. The weather is getting gorgeous in Boston so I’m very excited to get outside.

What are you up to this weekend?

What’s your favorite smoothie ingredient?

What’s your favorite summer cooler-downer: ice cream, froyo, sorbet, sherbert, smoothies or other? (I have to say in the summer, its a very close race between froyo and sorbet)

TGIF y’all!!!

How I wish i could be at work.

I’m soo glad it’s Friday. What do you have planned this cinco de mayo weekend?

It’s funny, when I was in my early 20s cinco de mayo meant looking forward to margaritas and coronas, but now I’m just as interested (if not more so) in the guacamole. Is that just me?

I’m really excited about today’s edition of Foodstuff Friday because my guest smoothie-maker is my mother!

me and my mom!

me and my mom!

Her smoothies are pretty legendary in my family so I hope you’re starting to get excited too.

Just make sure that you follow these instructions down to the letter, because otherwise I can not be held responsible for any injuries, pulled muscles or lack of fun. Her email to me is below:
